The annual Shinju Matsuri Festival has officially commenced its festivities in Broome, celebrating a vibrant festival of culture and heritage. Translated as the ‘Festival of the Pearl’ in Japanese, this event is a beloved tradition that graces Broome’s calendar for approximately 16 days each year. Cable Beach Club is honoured to support Shinju Matsuri annually and it’s truly an event we love being a part of.
This year, our sales manager, Chris Bull, had the honour of adjudicating the Shinju Float Parade and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The festival’s extensive program for this year boasts an impressive lineup of more than 50 events and activities. Highlights include the Sunset Long Table Dinner, the thrilling Pearl Meat Cook-Off, Pets in the Park gathering, the captivating Floating Lantern Matsuri, the delicious Chinatown Feast, and much more.
Shinju Matsuri stands as a testament to the rich history of cultures that have converged in Broome over the past century, driven by the allure of pearls. It pays homage to the contributions and influences of diverse communities, including the Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese, and Aboriginal cultures. This program promises an unforgettable experience, and we encourage everyone to partake in this celebration.
